Introduction:
Peace be upon
you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
In the previous
article we talked about the Quran but I noticed that many people do not know
Hadith and its types.
In this article
we will talk about Hadith.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Definition of Hadith:
It is
everything that is transmitted from Muhammad peace be upon him from:
- Saying
- Action
- Approval
- Attribute
The saying is:
everything Muhammad said.
The action is:
everything Muhammad did.
The approval
is: Muhammad’s agreement to something that happened in
front of him
with silence indicating satisfaction
The attribute
is: manners and morals of Muhammad.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How is Hadith transmitted from Muhammad to our present time?
Hadith is
transmitted through narrators,
To simplify the
matter, you can assume that there was a Muhammad's companion means sahabi who
transmitted a hadith from Muhammad to another person named Ahmad,
So then the sahabi
becomes a narrator when Ahmad transmits the hadith to another person then Ahmad
becomes a narrator and at this pace it is called Isnad,
Narrators are
generally divided into layers, for example, the first layer which is the layer
of sahabi and those who transmitted this hadith from other sahabis,
And the second
layer is Ahmad’s layer and those who took hadith from sahabis in this way,
Until we
reached a time when compilers appeared who were part of Isnad but they wrote it
instead of memorizing it and they also form another layer.
Like:
- Al-Bukhari
- Muslim
All their
hadiths are authentic.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
What does
Companion mean: It means every person who saw Muhammad while he was Muslim and
died on Islam.
What does Matn
mean: It means Muhammad’s speech or saying or action or approval or attribute.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And narrators are divided into two sections which are:
- Reliable narrators
- Unreliable narrators
There are two
conditions for us to know whether this narrator is reliable or not which are:
- His faith in Allah
- His ability to memorize
And if one
condition fails, then the narrator becomes unreliable and his Isnad for Hadith
should not be taken but rather another Isnad should be searched for.

The categories of Hadith in terms of credibility:
- Authentic
- Good
- Weak
- Fabricated
What
are authentic Hadiths: They are Hadiths that leave no room for discussion.
What
are good Hadiths: They are Hadiths that are less than authentic.
What
are weak Hadiths: They are Hadiths in which there is a narrator in their chain
who fails one of the conditions of trustworthiness.
What
are fabricated Hadiths: They are false Hadiths attributed to Muhammad.
The categories of Hadith in terms of the number of narrators:
If
the number of narrators is large in each layer, it is called a hadith:
- Mutawatir (which has the highest degree of credibility because the number of narrators is very large)
- Famous (which is a hadith whose number of narrators is not very large)
If
the number of narrators in one or more layers is small, it is called a hadith:
- Aziz (if there is one narrator in one or more layers)
- Gharib (if there are two narrators in one or more layers)
